At our meeting this morning we had 24 attendees.
We welcomed a guest this morning, Steve Cole from Mascol Events and are looking forward to
him becoming a member of Seaford Chamber.
Alasdair Fortune informed us that The Chamber Golf Day being held on Friday 20th September
is fully booked with both teams and Sponsors which is a fantastic turnout. More raffle prizes
were being looked for, if you are able to contribute a prize please pass it to a member of the
committee or Geri will be happy to receive it at the Hyundai Showrooms.
Our guest speakers today were Tom and Ella Gwilliam from STC. They gave us a talk and
demonstration around the Hornsea Project 1 Wind Turbine Farm which is 150km of the Hull
coastline it will be the world’s largest wind farm. STC were involved right from the beginning
having won a tender against very large companies, taking months in the process and then
working with a Dutch company during the execution of the project. The talk around each stage
of the development was fascinating, how obstacles were overcome and conditions dealt with.
The crew worked in 12 hour shifts to keep the project on time with Tom working nights on the
technical side and Ella working and training the crews during the day. Ella gave a demonstration
on the full protective clothing that has to be worn and how quickly it has to be put on in an
emergency. Ella was the only female on the project who was qualified in the working, training
and rescue. There is more information available about the project on the STC website.
The next meeting of Seaford Chamber will be Thursday 7th October.
